The 16th International Conference on Algorithmic Learning Theory (ALT 2005)
will be held at the Marina Mandarin Hotel, Singapore, during October 8 - 11,
2005.
The main objective of the conference is to provide
an interdisciplinary forum for discussion of theoretical
foundations of machine learning as well as their relevance to practical
applications. The conference will be co-located with the
``8th International
Conference on Discovery Science (DS 2005).''.
Topics of Interest: We invite submissions to ALT 2005 in all areas related to algorithmic learning theory, and those that are aimed at bridging theory and practice. Topics of interest include (but are not limited to): the design and analysis of learning algorithms, computational models of machine learning (e.g., on-line learning, learning via queries, inductive inference, statistical learning), specific algorithmic approaches (e.g., margin-based algorithms, MDL estimation, boosting), learning complex models (e.g., neural networks, Bayesian networks, logical formulae, grammars, instance-based models), machine discovery, and applications of machine learning to other fields (e.g., data mining, web mining, bioinformatics).

There will be several invited talks by prominent
researchers in the field.

Submission deadline: May 20, 2005 Notification of acceptance or rejection will be (e)mailed to the first (or designated) author by June 26, 2005 The camera-ready copy of accepted papers will be due July 20, 2005. Format. The submitted paper should consist of a cover page with title, authors' names, postal and e-mail addresses, an approximately 200 word summary, and a body not longer than ten (10) A4 or letter sized pages in twelve-point font. You may use appendices to include long but major proofs. If you submit hardcopies, double-sided printing is encouraged. Policy. Each submitted paper will be reviewed by the members of the program committee and be judged on clarity, significance, and originality. Joint submissions to other conferences with published proceedings are not allowed. Papers that have appeared in journals or other conferences are not appropriate for ALT 2005. Proceedings. will be published as a volume in the Lecture Notes in Artificial Intelligence, Springer-Verlag, and will be available at the conference. Selected papers of ALT 2005 will be invited to a special issue of the journal Theoretical Computer Science. E.M. Gold Award.
