in its broadest sense. The ALT series has been established in 1990. Thus, in 1999 it could celebrate its 10th anniversary at the ALT '99 meeting in Tokyo. On that occasion, Takashi Yokomori took a look back, and here is what he has summarized. The first ten years of ALT have been admirably managed by its founding Steering Committee. Starting with ALT 2000, a new Steering Committee took the responsibility to ensure the future success of ALT.
